This course is directed toward the most fundamental of skills including: Shop Math, Use of Blueprints/Drawings, and Job Planning and related safety issues. This course is very advantageous to new personnel in the mechanical maintenance field.

  1. The ability to read blueprints and drawings will aid in the basic skills of a maintenance mechanic.
  2. Learn basic shop math that will assist you in performing tasks in the both maintenance and planning.

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  1. Understand the basic math needed to perform maintenance including: Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, Division, and Algebraic Equations
  2. Identify symbols used on blueprints and drawings
  3. Demonstrate the ability to read piping diagrams and machine prints

 What You Will Receive:
  • 1 copy of HPC Technical Services' textbook, Shop math and Blueprint Reading
  • A "Certificate of Completion".


This course is a requirement for Power Plant Maintenance Certification.  Those who attend this course are automatically qualified to take HPC Technical Services' Certification Examination.  This examination is offered at no additional expense to the participant.  An 80% passing grade is required.  The examination length will not exceed 2-hours.  Those who complete this examination will receive a revised "certificate of completion" that recognizes this accomplishment along with two-copies of a "To Whom It May Concern" letter that states their accomplishment.  (Two copies are provided, one for the participants' employer and one for the participants' personal file.)
